Simply put, understanding the visual language of a work enables one to learn to ‘see’ as an artist sees – what is it exactly that makes certain paintings great, or innovative and others, although perhaps technically skilled, not as valued?.

In Venice, there will also be discussions about Modern art which can be seen at the Peggy Guggenheim Museum as well as the various galleries and rotating contemporary shows that will be up at the time of the trip. This will add a dynamic content by contrasting the historical art of Venice with some of the great Modern art.
